The choice of black and white for an interior is a classic choice.
This trend has not stopped gaining grounds thanks to the enthusiasm brought to the Scandinavian design that advocates simplicity: white for light, black for contrast and character.
However, there are some things to not to do. We can think that it is simple, but it is an art. It is thus necessary to follow some advices.
Unbalancing black and white
Those colours should not be in the same place. Black should to be less present than white. It should not be present on all the walls or ceiling at the risk of reducing radiance (or brightness?) of the room.
Varying the matters
In order to avoid the colourless decors, don’t hesitate to vary the materials and hues, to marry matte and gloss. It makes the room much warmer. Velvet, wool, linen, leather… everything is possible. These little details don’t seem much but they bring a real importance. They bring fourth personality.
“Details are not the details. They make the design”. Charles Eames
The “Mudcloth Cushion Noir Ciré” is a perfect example. Elegant black and white checkers on the front, genuine metallic Italian leather on the back. It is an outstanding mix that complement a simple sofa or a simple room.
Breaking the symmetry
In many case, a black and white decor can seem very banal. Asymmetry allows thus to break classic and give softness and femininity to the room.
Opting for graphic patterns
Black and white graphic patterns are a good idea to break flat tint of black too imposing. The difficulty is not to abuse it. A carpet is enough as well as an only side of fabric walling/wall paper.
